Independent Candidate gets naked
the Independent candidate Manuel Alfredo Quintero Belda was sanctioned to 30 days for undressing in a public place such as the Electoral Tribunal.
The fine imposed by the Ancon Justice of the Peace was commutable to no less than $30 that he will have to pay for what was described as ’immoral acts’.
The Electoral Court explained that the alleged offense was recorded in a decree of year 2000, which measures and sanctions are established for indigence, vagrancy and public decency in the district of Panama.
Belda stated that he chose to strip naked in order to draw attention and protesting against corruption and also to launch his candidacy to be an independent deputy. Belda took this opportunity to call for a peaceful protest against corruption on July 1st at the National Assembly.
He was a candidate for deputy for the FAD under the name of Manuel Quintero and now he wants to run with his second name and surname, Alfredo Beld. To comply, he must get at least 16,000 signatures.
Last April, he took advantage of the appointment of the representative of the Comarca de Señorita Panama, who had called the media, to call attention to the Atrium of the seat of the electoral Tribunal and undressed next to the monument of the former president of the Republic Ernesto de la Guardia Jr.
"The corrupt continue to hide accounts and information. I have nothing to hide’ said Belda, explaining that everything was an artistic presentation of his proposal called "Nothing to hide."
