Five convicted for trafficking turtle eggs
Five people were convicted of illegally trafficking turtle eggs on Wednesday August 17. All five perpetrators were fined $3000 and will be denied access to public services for 40 months.The charge has been approved by the accusatory penal system (SPA).
1314 eggs were retrieved and believe to have come from Costa del Valle in Tonosí, Los Santos. According to the Ministry of Environment, in the coastal district of Tonosí are the most important sites of Panama's Pacific coast for nesting sea turtles.
