Over 7 million loss from blackout
According from information from the Center for Economic Studies of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama Sunday’s six hour blackout could leave a loss of $7.8 million.
The blackout which caused 25% drop in sales of shopping centers in the capital, came at a time where a large amount of tourists were in the capital anticipating the Pope’s arrival on Wednesday January 23rd. Since the event took place on a Sunday, businesses affected were mainly restaurants and stores.
The Panamanian Association of Business Executives (Apede) voiced concern in the management of the Electric Transmission Company, SA (Etesa).
