Work on wooded areas located on the Pa American Highway has begun for the expansion on the Arraiján - Puente de las Américas stretch.

The execution of this work, which includes the expansion to eight lanes of the road, is the responsibility of the Loma Cova consortium, which was awarded the tender for an amount of $335. 5 million.

The director of Environmental Management of the Municipality of Arraiján , Libia Herrera, began a review of the project documents, including the environmental impact study (EIA), in order to assess the damage it could cause to wildlife habitat. .

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) reported that before intervening the area was entered with specialized equipment, with the purpose of rescuing species and, later, relocating them in areas such as the Soberania Park.

According to the resolution of the EIA and the specifications, the contractor must develop a reforestation plan to replace the trees that will be cut down.
