The FIFA World Cup trophy visits Panama

The 2018 FIFA World Cup trophy was in Panama April 6th, 2018, the 46th stop on its tour leading up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament which will take place in Russia.

While it is Panama’s second time receiving the 18-karat, solid gold trophy in the country, this year’s visit was extra special as it is Panama’s first time qualifying for the event. This year the trophy’s arrival marks the country’s inaugural appearance in the tournament this summer, explained Roberto Mercade, the president of Coca Cola’s Latin American Center business unit. 

The cup was greeted by President Juan Carlos Varela yesterday, he received it from the famous French footballer, David Trezeguet at the Panama Pacifico Airport. Efe reported a Boeing 737-300 and landed Friday carrying Trezeguet as an ambassador for the trophy.
Trezeguet exchanged a few words with the president. 

"Soon you’ll be able to enjoy this World Cup moment. Enjoy and go Panama!" Trezeguet said.

Varela, explained that he was “honored to receive the Cup on behalf of all Panamanians."

The next stop for the trophy is Costa Rica before it moves on to Mexico, the United States, Germany, Mongolia, China, and Japan. Its final stop will be Vladivostok, Russia, on May 1.
