Cruise ship arrives in Bocas del Toro

For more than nine hours, a cruise ship from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises anchored some 400 meters from Estrella Beach. The ship, arrived from Costa Rica, with 283 crew and 331 German passengers, of whom about 200 decided to get to know part of Isla Colón.

Gustavo Him, administrator of the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) , commented that the shipping company took care of all the logistics to transport the passengers, while ATP took care of security on the island avoiding any incidents to the tourists.

The official did not rule out that the shipping company may include new stops on the island during future trips to Panama. The ship is to arrive at the capital Friday or Saturday. In general, German tourists who book crossings on the Caribbean cruise arrive in Jamaica by air and then board one of the cruise ships that leave the island.

The ATP invested 2.9 million dollars to improve the tourist infrastructure in Isla Colón. The work included improvements to the Simón Bolívar municipal park and third street where the greatest commercial activity is concentrated. Pedestrian sidewalks will be renovated and a bike path will be built.

The administrator of the ATP indicated that improvements will also be made to the pier of the island, as well as to their regional office in order to offer a better service to the tourists that arrive to the island.
