Driver who killed cyclist Monica Licona sentenced
Enrique Jaén Chérigo, was sentenced to 63 months in prison on June 16th, 2017 for hitting and killing cyclist Monica Licona September 20, 2015.
Chérigo will serve five years and three months in prison for the crime against life and personal integrity as sentenced by the Twelfth Circuit Court of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama.
This hit and run occurred in the early hours of the morning and has been a reminder since for drivers to respect cyclists and share the road. Billboards and advertisements have been seen throughout the city honoring the life of Monica Licona and raising awareness as her legacy.
