Talk of a Train

The Juan Carlos Varela government has begun studies on the possibility of constructing a rail road system system between La Chorrera and David.

While in Paris for the climate change conference Varlea and officials from Alstom Transport, the provider of the trains used in the Panama Metro system, spoke about the feasibility of the project.

If approved, the project is to be build in 3 stages. The first stage will connect
La Chorrera to Penonome, the second will connect to Santiago, and the final stage to David. Ultimately the goal would be to connect the train system to the Panama City  Metro system.

In the recent meeting Varela explained he was committed to improving public transportation. The current president set a goal to offer connectivity throughout the country by 2030.
