Airport Survey Measures Tourist Experience

According to a survey, more than 70% of tourists rated their stay in Panama as excellent, and 9 out of 10 would recommend the country to their friends.

However, many mention negatives like poor customer service, trash, road congestion in Panama City and limited public transportation that take away from the visitor’s experience.

The survey, issued between December 2016 and January 2017 in several airports throughout the country, was completed by more than 2000 visitors exiting the country.

One of the main issues raised by the survey was the issue of garbage collection. Casco Antiguo, one of the most visited places by tourists, after the canal, has problems in the area of waste collection. Another issue raised by many was in the area of customer service. 17% of visitors said that their experience was negative due poor service offered by the tourism industry.

Spokesmen for the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) said that the institution maintains a campaign in the media to sensitize people regarding the treatment of visitors.
