Diving For A Cause visits Hooked on Panama

An organization called Diving For A Cause was recently at Hooked on Panama fishing lodge on Punta Burica, not only to spear fish, but give back to local schools in the area. The group has been spearfishing from the lodge for 5 straight years, each time they have given practical donations to local schools in the area.

This year was their biggest year, giving not just to 2 schools but 5 school in the region. There were 18 group members on the trip taking turns diving every other day for 6 days on 2 boats. While not diving, the group spent time going to the schools and delivering backpacks with bilingual books, school supplies, clothing and shoes. 2 schools got new soccer goal post and nets, along with 24 soccer balls so all the children could practice and improve.

The big catch was Yellow Fin Tuna! All the schools got their share of the fresh catch of Tuna to put in their freezers. The meat will be used for school meals. The total number of Yellow Fin Tuna caught was 32. One boat had 8 Yellow Fin Tuna in one day, largest estimated weight was 140 lbs! The group explained that there  were a lot of NatGeo moments from  bait balls to bird piles and an abundance of dolphins. Diving for a Cause has already booked for 2017!
