Strong earthquake in Colombia felt in Panama

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit Colombia on Monday August 10, and was felt in various parts of Panama at 7:34 a.m. So far, no damage or injuries related to this earthquake have been reported in Panama.

The earthquake was felt in Panama with reports in areas including: La Chorrera, Coclé, Penonomé, Panama City, and Colón. The epicenter was located in Colombia, about 350 kilometers southeast of Jaqué, Darién province, according to data released in the preliminary report from the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama.

Panama took precautions, including closing the metro, which resumed operations on lines 1 and 2 at 8:40 am, after suspending service for units from the Panama Fire Department (BCBP) to conduct inspections and verify that the structures and other facilities were not affected.
