Japan will Finance Third Metro Line connecting Panama City to Panama West
August, 8th, 2025, Panama’s Foreign Minister and Japanese Ambassador to Panama exchanged notes granting Panama $2.486 billion for the development of Line 3 of the Panama Metro.
According to the Foreign Ministry, this loan was granted on favorable terms for Panama, with a 14-year amortization period, a six-year grace period, and low interest rates.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the purpose of this loan is to finance and develop Urban Transport Line 3 in the Panama Metropolitan Area.
The Foreign Ministry recalled that bilateral relations between Panama and Japan are based on a close relationship of more than 121 years.
