House arrest for Panama hacker André Conte
Activist, André Conte is on house arrest after being linked to the alleged hacking of Panama’s National Police computer systems in 2020.
The Public Ministry announced that it will appeal the decision, which must be defined in another hearing before an appeals judge.
During this Thursday’s hearing, Conte’s arrest for the alleged commission of crimes against computer security and for attacking the internal security of the State was legalized.
The Office of the Prosecutor for Intellectual Property and Computer Security of the Public Ministry, in the hearing, explained that in the investigation carried out over five months, the IP of one of Conte’s technological equipment had been identified, which led them to the residence of the aforementioned.
According to an article published by La Prensa, Judge legalizes the arrest of Andre Conte, Conte has been a harsh critic of police abuse. Conte has also been present in the latest citizen protests against corruption, and the health strategy against the Covid-19 pandemic.
