ASEP backs off with the "sun tax"
The National Authority of Public Services (ASEP) said on Tuesday, May 29, that it will exclude from the discussion of the adjustments to the Tariff Regime regarding charges to customers who self cons
The measure would be a relief for customers and companies involved in the generation of solar energy, who warned of how harmful it would be to apply a penalty rate or tax to customers who take pressure off the energy distribution network.
Although the ASEP has mentioned that it would exclude the rate of the tariff regime, it insists that there will be a period of 60 days to receive comments on this issue.
Last week it was learned that the ASEP suggested establishing charges to customers using solar panels, with the premise that if at some point self-generation is insufficient, the consumer has the possibility of using the national energy distribution network.
With this consideration, distributors must have energy available to the even if the customer does not use it, and it was because of that available energy that it suggested establishing a charge.
The original proposal, which was cancelled, emerged in the context of the tariff review of electricity distribution companies ENSA and Edemet Edechi (Unión Fenosa), which will be in force from 2022 to 2026 .
It was never mentioned who had the idea of applying the rate, but it is assumed that the energy distributors were the ones who pushed the proposal.
In this environment, the administrator of the ASEP, Roberto Meana, had to approach the members of the Solar Energy Chamber to seek "the best formula that benefits all parties."
ASEP took a step back after these meetings and the citizen rejection through social networks,
