Vehicles circulating without insurance

ATTT says that there are over 200,000 vehicles circulating without valid car insurance which has been mandatory since 2006.

The information was provided by the Superintendent of Insurance and Reinsurance, José Joaquín Riesen , in the midst of the launch of a digital platform in which authorities and individuals can verify if their policy is valid. The application is called "Valida tu poliza",  González pointed out that this tool not only seeks to reduce  insurance counterfeit, but also to guarantee the safety of the population.

The system will be tested for 60 days following the launch allowing the digital verification for those who have not been registered in the system, once that term expires, those who do not appear as having active policies will face fines of $50 as well as the removal of their vehicles.

Irving Halman, director of the Government Innovation Authority, says that the tool can be downloaded from a computer or a mobile device from the following web pages: www.superseguros.gob.pa and www.transito.gob.pa . The platform has been running since April 2nd, has had approximately 60,000 users and had had  more than 100,000 queries.

According to the authorities, the platform has 830,000 thousand current policies of which  625,000 are private, 25,000 from public transport and the balance relates to towing equipment, commercial and government vehicles.

The Traffic authorities assure that with this new system Law 68 of 2016 is enforced, which regulates basic compulsory insurance for traffic accidents, and in which it is mandatory to have a national registry of vehicles and policies.
