Project guarantees mobility for cyclists
The government of Panama under the administration of President Juan Carlos Varela has passed bill 329, establishing rules and access for cyclists in Panama.
The bill aims to encourage non-motorized means of mobility by guaranteeing road access, even in the event of road construction.
The bill was approved in the third debate by the Assembly, also making October 28, Panamanian Cyclist Day, which will be an annual event in Panama.
Bill 329, indicates that the municipalities, in coordination with the ministries of Public Works, Housing and Territorial Ordering and the Tourism Authority, must draw up and adopt “sustainable mobility plans” to create and maintain road access for bikes, and other non-motorized mobility.
According to the new legislation, mayors will have a term of one year, from the promulgation of the law, to adopt these plans.
