Beach Corridor bids & Coronado overpass

Three bids were presented on Wednesday, July 5th,  for design and construction of the first stretch of the “beach corridor”.

The beach corridor is a plan to develop over 50 km of highway spanning from La Chorrera to San Carlos Panama. The plan also includes the rehabilitation of bridges and construction of overpasses.

According to an article published in La Prensa, this development will extend to the Coronado community with the development of an overpass at the Coronado intersection for people leaving the Coronado area. This intersection is one of many dangerous sections of the Panamerican highway, where many lives have been lost due to traffic accidents.

The first stretch of the beach corridor is 32.65 kilometers and runs from La Chorrera to Santa Cruz. This will be the first stage of development.

The second stretch, which will also be tendered this week, has 21.80 kilometers and connects Santa Cruz with San Carlos.

The bids on the development came from China Communications Construction Company, the FCC Beach Corridor Consortium (a group made up of FCC Construcción & Operadora Cicsa) and the final bid from Consorcio Vial 1 ( Constructora Meco and Constructora Urbana).

The three groups presented bonds for a value of 25 million dollars, with the validity of 180 days. The economic proposals were put in security envelopes that will be deposited in vaults at the National Bank of Panama.
