Earthquake aftershocks in Chiriqui

April 2, 2017 an earthquake of a 5.3 magnitude to place in the Chiriqui region of Panama. More 70 aftershocks have occurred since, destroying 11 homes and damaging at least 23 home.

The Civil Protection Agency (Sinaproc) regional director Francisco Santamaría, also listed three damaged schools and  several roads in the area. There have also been several roads closed due to landslides.

Two of the homes affected were in Boquete, one in Palmira Centro (with 70% structural damage), and another in El Sal. Inspections are reviewing damages in several educational centers throughout the region, following the discovery of structural cracks.Classes have been suspended in Cerro Punta and the Francés Abajo school in Boquete due to structural damage of the buildings.
