Panama’s basic food basket price drop

The Ministry of Economy and Finance has issued a report stating that the prices of half of the foods that make up la canasta basica, Panama’s basic food basket, have fallen in price.

The basic food basket includes 59 food items. In August, many of these items were down in price.

Among the cheaper items were onions, yams, cabbage lettuce and sweet peppers. However, 23 items went up in price. The items that rose in price include bananas, pineapples, lentils ground beer and dehydrated soup. 

The current price of the basic basket is $309.41.
