Car Accident Kills two Panamanian Officials

Sunday July 3 2016, Panama’s Minister of Security Secretary, General Emilio Royo and Minister of the Presidency’s security, official Jordi Velasquez, were killed in a car accident. The fatal accident occurred on the Pan-American highway between Arraijan and La Chorrera.

The officials were traveling together in one vehicle that was hit by another car headed towards the interior of the country. The driver of the other car was Pedro Ernesto Villarreal, who also lost his life.

Also in the car with the two officials were Karina Ibuza, Luzmila González and Omar Álvarez, who work for the Institutional Protection Service (SPI), they escaped with injuries. The government officials were headed to Panama City after attending an event in La Chorrera organized by Panama City Mayor José Blandón.

President Juan Carlos Varela visited the injured survivors at Nicolás. A. Solano Hospital in La Chorrera today (Monday). The president and mayor of Panama City have both cancelled activities they had planned for today Monday July 4.
