Panama’s first Heart Transplant Successful
The recipient of Panama’s first heart transplant has been declared stable and the transplant a success.
Three months following the procedure, in a press conference on June 7 2016, the 51- year old woman who received the new heart was declared stable and her body to be accepting the new organ.According to Jose Nativi-Nicolau, a cardiologist the University of Utah, the organ and it’s recipient are being closely monitored to ensure the organ is not rejected.
Dr. Miguel Guerra Núñez, medical director of Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex assisted in the surgery, he explained that the transplant "is a historic event for the country." He says, "we are very pleased, we have achieved something that will help patients who had been sentenced to death."
