The beach communities on the Pacific Coast of Panama are expected to get some swell. In light of this, Panama’s National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) has issued a 24 hour “Green Alert” for the Pacific Beaches as of May 31 extending to June 1.

The swell will bring 1.22 - 1.83 meter waves with 14 - 16 seconds. SINAPROC is working to keep the beach community safe during the high tides that the swell may bring.

Coastal areas that could be subject to damage include: Puerto Caimito in La Chorrera, Chame, San Carlos, Coronado, Farallon in Anton, El Salao in Aguadulce, Puerto Armuelles in Chiriqui, Uverito, Mariato, islands of the archipelago, La Palma in Darien and pretty much areas near the Pacific coast.

The Civil Protection agency urges those in coastal communities to stay alert especially when at the beach in the presence of rising tide and frequent waves. They ask that recreational activities such as boating and surfing be avoided and that beach goers be aware of riptides, not swimming when there is a “red flag”. In the case that no lifeguard is present do not enter the water in areas where there are strong rip tides. Never enter the water while under the influence.
