Protesting at the Barro Blanco hydro electric project

As the government announces that testing of the Barro Blanco hydro electric project is close to beginning, Indigenous residents continue to protest on the banks of the Tabasara River.

Clementina Perez, one of the protester explained that the group of protestors currently camped out on the river banks will not be vacating as asked to, rather they remain on the site when testing of the plant begins.

This group of indigenous protesters wish to see the project abandoned, as it will negatively impact indigenous communities.

According to various report the government is aiming to avoid violent confrontations. As those which were common in the Martinelli era, resulting deaths and injuries due to action by riot police.
