300 pounds of crocodile meat seized

Environment Ministry officials (Miambiente) seized almost 300 pounds of crocodile meat this week.

The seizure was made at a checkpoint in Chepo, when two people were stopped diving a pickup truck.

Miambiente warned that the meat would not be auctioned and that steps are being taken to have the meat donated to the Summit park and the Pan-American Conservation Association, "to supplement the food in the rehabilitation programs."

The Law 24 of 1995 recognizes the American crocodile as a protected species and, since 2016, are considered a vulnerable species.
