Bird:Barred Antshrike
These birds are year round residents of the Coronado area and tend to be seen low down in shrubs and bushes although they are quite social and can be seen in the lower branches of trees. From these locations they fly to ground to feed off insects and small invertebrates but ironically rarely ants.
The male is a barred black and white and the female is a orange brown with a peach breast. Both have a small crest and yellow eye
At maturity they are about 16 cm (6 in.) and their call is a somewhat pitiful single extended note chirp.
