Dolphins rescued from River
With strong rains in the province of Chirigui, two dolphins managed to find their way into the river of Platanares. The dolphins were spotted in the river near a private farm located in David.
Yilka Aguirre, the regional director of the Ministry of Environment said the Ministry was advised of the situation and they were in contact with the Authority of Marine life rescue in Panama (ARAP) and the National Civil protection authorities (Sinaproc). The two agencies carried our a rescue with the help of volunteers.
Aguirre predicts that a combination of high tides and strong rains provoked the dolphins to enter this part of the river. It was clear that the dolphins could not get back to the ocean possibly due to current or a fallen tree obstructing their passage.
This was the first time an incident like this has been registered in the area.
