La Amistad National Park Holds on to UNESCO World Heritage Status

Thursday July 14th, the Unesco World Herriage Committee came to the decision that La Amistad National Park, located between Costa Rica and Panama, would not be added to a list of endangered World Heritage sites.

Based on the effort shown by Panama and Costa Rica, UNESCO ruled that they saw commitment to changes that would better the protection of the park. While Unesco World Herriage Committee decided in favor of keeping the park listed as a world heritage site and not adding it to the list to threatened sites, they set a date of 2018 for both countries to show progress in their actionable goals which would offer greater protection to the park.
