Supermoon, Bloodmoon & Lunar Eclipse

This Sunday, September 27, Panama will see a total lunar eclipse just after 7:00 p.m.,  if the clouds do not obstruct our view. The eclipse will coincide with a supermoon (when the moon is closest to the earth) and a bloodmoon (when the moon passes behind the earth in its shadow resulting in a reddish hue).

According to AccuWeather.com this Sunday’s  rare event will not occur for another 18 years.

Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth’s shadow blocks the sun’s light, which otherwise reflects off the moon. There are three types of eclipses, total, partial and penumbral. A total lunar eclipse is the most dramatic, as the earth’s shadow will completely cover the moon.
