Dead Manta Rays in Punta Chame
The Ministry of Environment (MiAMBIENTE) recently reported several dead manta rays on the coast of Punta Chame, in the province of Panama West, Panama.
The protocol for these cases, explained Mayerlin González, head of the Coasts and Seas section in the province of Panama West, involves evaluating the area to verify environmental conditions and collect technical information.
Although the cause of death of the rays is unknown, officials recommended that the public, upon finding marine fauna, avoid direct handling of the bodies and immediately notify the competent authorities.
Citizen collaboration is fundamental for the protection and conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems. Reporting helps authorities document and research what is happening in environments and the species that live there.
MiAMBIENTE park rangers continue patrolling the areas of La Claridad, Líbano, Puerto El Líbano, Puerto La Zona, Los Pescadores, Playa Caracol, and Punta Chame.
