Panama’s Atheyna Bylon win Silver medal in 2024 Paris Olympics

Panama proudly celebrated its first-ever Olympic medal won by a Panamanian woman, a silver secured in a sport that has seen over thirty world champions emerge from the country.

Despite boxer Atheyna Bylon’s loss to China’s Li Qian in the heavyweight final (-75 kg) by split decision (4-1), her achievement brought immense national pride. President José Raúl Mulino expressed Panama’s unity and joy over the historic win.

People gathered in Urracá Park and across the country, watching the fight on giant screens and television with immense enthusiasm. 

Bylon’s boxing achievement has elevated Panamanian boxing on the international stage, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sporting history.
