Dry Law returns in Panama West

Starting Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 Dry Law will be in effect for the entire province of Panama West from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday until 4:00 a.m. on Monday, again.

The prohibition of the sale and consumption of alcohol coincides with the *absolute quarantine ordered by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Sundays. However, within Panama West, the only district affected by absolute quarantine Sunday is Chorrera.

*absolute quarantine
people cannot circulate in the district of Chorrera starting Saturday at 10:00 pm until Monday morning. We are unsure how this affects people traveling through the district on a Sunday.

While other districts including Chame and San Carlos are currently not close on Sundays, these districts still have a curfew of 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

It is important to note that Penonome in Cocle is also under absolute quarantine on Sundays.

So if you live in the district of Chame or San Carlos it’s probably a good idea not to stray too far from home in either direction on a Sunday.

Dry Law returns to Coronado, Panama starting Sunday, July 3rd, 2021

The measure will be applied from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday until 4:00 a.m. on Monday. For the entire province of Panama West.

Decree No. 001 also prohibits practices, dance activities, family parties, artistic presentations, and any event that leads to a crowd of people.

The law was agreed upon by mayors of the districts within the province of Panama West in an effort to stop a progressive increase of cases.

"Dry law will allow us to stop the progressive increase in covid-19 infections and attack with greater force the clandestine sale of liquor in the corregimientos."

-  Mayor María Elena Sánchez, District of San Carlos
