Panama announces New Covid 19 measures including travel restrictions

Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, during the epidemiological report of Covid-19 in Panama, this Tuesday, May 4th, announced an increase in infection in Panama West (Chame and San Carlos).

Sucre asked that those who "live or go to the beach sectors stay on alert."

The Minister of Health also declared that it is forbidden for residents to travel to  South America and South Africa, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, and India, due to the new variants present in these countries. 

Moreover, he announced Covid-19 outbreaks in Chiriqui Panama within the districts of, David, Bugaba, Boquete and Tierras Altas, calling for "self-confinement" in the province. 

"It seems that the virus is gaining ground again", he said, "and that is why we must not lower our guard."

 Warning that if the situation does not improve, measures will have to be taken in the provinces where infection rates increase.

At the same time, Sucre announced the opening of seminars, forums, congresses, conventions, exhibitions, and training as of May 10th. A capacity of up to 25% of the premises where they are held is the max and only in provinces that have a positivity of less than 5%.

He added that currently, the provinces that meet this requirement are: Panama, Panama Oeste, Colón, Herrera, Los Santos.

From next Monday, May 17, public transport will increase its capacity to 80%. People using public transport need to wear a face shield or two masks. And the driver must have signs that inform passengers that it is forbidden to talk or use a phone.
