Cracking down on child pornography

The Public Ministry executed operations Wednesday September 4th 2019, in Panama West, Coclé, Panama City, Chiriquí and Los Santos in an effort to dismantle an alleged pornography ring.

Thirteen sites were raided across Panama Wednesday as part of a larger effort to end child sexual exploitation, that took place in seven countries in the Americas.

Simultaneous operations were also carried out in the United States, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, and Paraguay.

Prosecutors and forensic experts are examining the data obtained from the equipment seized in the raids.

Penalties for the crime of child pornography range from 5 to 15 years in jail.
