6.1 Earthquake near Puerto Armuelles Panama
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 and an epicenter of 12 km from Puerto Armuelles, Panama, near the border with Costa Rica, took place Sunday afternoon.
The National System of Civil Protection of Panama (Sinaproc) informed the nation of the telluric movement ruling out the possibility of tsunamis in the coastal areas affected by the earthquake.
Naturgy Panama reported that the electric power service provided is affected in Puerto Armuelles, San Bartolo, Agua Buena, Rio Mar and San Vicente was affected. "Our crews keep attending the cases, to normalize the supply in the shortest time possible," the statement said.
After the earthquake, Juan Carlos Varela, who is still the president of Panama, reported that some homes and businesses were affected. "Up to this moment we only have the report of an injured woman when the roof of her house collapsed in Puerto Armuelles, " the president said. Several reports posted photos of affected businesses, with items from the stores scattered along the floors.
