Blackout affects Central America
Were you without Power January 20th? Well, apparently you were not alone! A blackout affected several countries in Central America including Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Guatemala.
The incident that occurred midday Sunday, left a large part of the country without power for hours. According Panama’s Electricity Transmission Company, the interruption was due to an "event in the national integrated system".
However it is unclear how the power outage in Panama caused the massive blackout, affecting Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.
The blackout led to several subway lines suspending their services, and important services like the Panama Canal and Tocumen airport resorting to the use of generators to continue services.
