$1 Coins to start circulating

The National Bank of Panama will not be supplying one dollar bills during an undetermined time frame.

The National Bank of Panama (BNP) will not be distributing one dollar bank notes as of today, November 16.

This order is temporary, although they have not issued a deadline.  This endeavor is to activate the circulation of one dollar coins minted for the occasion of World Youth Day (WYD) .

The government of Juan Carlos Varela minted 36 million dollars in one dollar coins to commemorate the event, something President Ricardo Martinelli did during his administration, when he minted $ 40 million in coins of the same denomination.
