Mayor promotes ’Panama Camina’

Panama Camina: Share Central has been initiated by the Mayor’s Office of Panama city and the Inter-American Development Bank.

Panama Camina is a ’citizen’s urban experiment’ of a temporary nature of which the inauguration will be next Saturday November 17 and will remain active until Sunday December 16th.

The project is  being developed in conjunction with the Ciudad Emergente team, the Vía Plural cultural organization, the consultancy of Gehl Architects and the support of the University of Panama.

In order to execute the project, a temporary reconfiguration of vehicular traffic will be implemented in the section of Central Avenue from L Street to the entrance of the Pedestrian area.

According to the Municipality of Panama, the experiment has as objectives: to generate an urban space for citizens to meet,  to promote coexistence through art and culture, as well as to connect and share the routes for safe walking in the area.

Through a statement, the municipality said that before, during and after the project, its impact on urban and social problems of the sector, citizen perceptions and the influx of users, will allow local authorities to evaluate their results and plan long-term actions.
