Art show to travel the country

An exhibition called ’34 Masters of Panamanian Paintings’, will be show cased in various branches of Caja de Ahorros throughout the country


The traveling exhibition "34 Masters of Panamanian Paintings" , consists of the reproduction of 34 works of art by the first artists of Panama, born between 1849 and 1930, will travel the isthmus between June and November.

Arte Panamá Foundation and the Caja de Ahorros organized this exhibition which  began its tour starting June 25 until July 4 at the Changuinola branch in Bocas del Toro.  The public will be able to see it during regular business banking hours.   The collection will tour other branches of the country until it finishes its journey in November, at their headquarters in Panama City.

The curator Arlene Lachman explains that the first compilation and documented work was carried out by the Arte Panamá Foundation.  It is  "about the first artists who started the contemporary art movement in Panama.  We documented 34 artists, and decided to make an unprecedented presentation, the first in the country.  These historical and exceptional works  art pioneers. whose lives and works constitute an indisputable patrimony for the nation ".

The objective is  "to draw attention,  to promote and give them the value they deserve and their place in the memory and cultural identity of Panamanians. 

With Caja de Ahorros we are showing reproductions of 34 works of art by 34 artists.  We are including their technical files and biographical information.


The artist featured are:  Epifanio Garay (1849 - 1903), Manuel E. Amador (1869- 1952), Roberto Lewis (1874 - 1949), Rubén Villalaz (1897 - 1994), Tomás Cabal Barros (1897 - 1966), Melitón Castro (1908) - 1990), Humberto Ivaldi (1909 - 1947), Trixie Briceño (1911 - 1985), Lloyd Barthley (1912 - 1999), Juan Manuel Cedeño (1914-1997), Alfredo Sinclair (1915 - 2014), Eudoro Silvera (1917 - 2010), Eugenio Dunn (1917 - 2008), Justino Rodríguez (1920 -), Ciro Oduber (1921 - 2000) and Olga Sánchez Borbón (1921 - 2016).   Jean Baptiste Jeannine (1922 - 1982), Marco Ernesto (1923-1985), Ignacio Mallol P. Curator Nancy Calvo , who along with Lachman is in charge of the Arte Panamá Foundation, explains that these are high-resolution photographs of the original works that "have been printed on canvas to have the greatest impact.  They were distributed chronologically. "  The idea, adds Calvo, "is to bring art to as many people as possible’’. 

After Changuinola (Bocas)   the show  will move to David, from 9 to 18 July, Santiago, from July 23 to August 1; Chitré, from August 6 to 15; Penonomé, from August 20 to 29; Coronado, from September 3 to 12; Libertador Park, from September 17 to 26; Colón, from October 1 to 10, and at the headquarters in Panama City from October 29 to November 14.
