5.3 degree earthquake shakes Panama

An earthquake measuring 5.3 degrees was recorded yesterday, June 13th in the province of Los Santos, reported the National System of Civil Protection (Sinaproc).

The tremor was  also felt in the provinces of  Panama, Coclé, Veraguas and Chiriqui.


The director of Sinaproc, José Donderis, recorded the quake at 18:54 local time (23:54 GMT), 13 kilometers northwest of the town of Tonosí, on the Azuero peninsula.

Initially, Sinaproc and the Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama reported that the intensity of the earthquake was 5.5 degrees.
