Early diagnosis defeats cancer

Dermatologists are offering free detection services in various shopping centers this month.

As of  Saturday, May 5, dermatologists will be on hand in Multiplaza (Sanborns area); on Saturday the 19th, at Alta Plaza Mall (in front of Audiofoto); and on Saturday, May 26, at Albrook Mall (dolphin hall).

Doctors will review moles and also check people who suffer from any skin lesions (pimples, ulcers, scratches that has not healed, etc.). The hours of operation will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Dermatologist Carmen Amada Pinzón stressed that this campaign seeks to focus the month of May as the month of the revision of moles and prevent skin cancer.

She explained that alarm signals for moles can be identified with the ABCDE , which are the warning signs to detect suspicious lesions : A, if the mole is asymmetric; B, if its edge is irregular; C, its coloration is uneven; D, its diameter is greater than five millimeters; and E, the elevation is uneven or has risen with time.

If you can not make it to these clinics, it id advisable to contact your doctor and make an appointment with a dermatologist.
