90 day ban on Venezuelan airlines

Panama has approved a ban on Venezuelan airlines stopping their operations in Panama for a period of 90 days.

The ban on Venezuelan flights is in retaliation for the diplomatic and trade bans announced recently by Venezuela, which banned Panamanian companies like Copa Airlines from operating.

A measure which came after Panama’s government put Venezuelan President Nicolas on a “high risk” list for money laundering.

The office of President Juan Carlos Varela explained Tuesday that the ban on cargo and passenger flights would begin on April 25 and extend for 90 days.

The move will affect 10 Venezuelan companies.

Latin American leaders will meet in Peru this week. The talks will likely sharpen the tone and actions against Maduro. Maduro has not been invited to the meetings.
