Fines for renting without permits

Two landlords received fines for renting without the proper permits Wednesday, August 30th, 2017. The houses, located in La Loma, Pueblo Nuevo, are believed to have had a total of 26 rooms, all of which were occupied by Venezuelans.

Officials from the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Ordering (Miviot), Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Tourism Authority of Panama, National Police and Mayor of Panama participated in the operation.

The mayor of the city of Panama, José Isabel Blandón, confirmed that the action was carried out following complaints received by the residents of the sector of La Loma.

The owners of these residences were summoned to appear before the appropriate authorities.

The general director of leases of the Miviot, Naydú Rudas, explained that the fines in place for renting accommodation without regulatory permits have increased considerably. Currently, there are more than 10 complaints received daily.

"There are landlords who are promoted in web pages, where they advertise as a hostel, but in reality they are homes in breach of what was established in Law 93 of October 4, 1973 (which governs leases), so we are fulfilling our oversight role And punish those who break the law” he said.
