US citizen hospitalized after shooting

A 22- year-old American is in stable condition in Santo Tomas hospital after being shot in Casco Viejo. The female tourist was a bystander when an incident occurred between an agent from the Institutional Protection Service (SPI) and a taxi driver the morning of Friday April 28th.

According to a report by El Siglo, the taxi driver failed to stop when ordered to by the agent who then fired after the fleeing vehicle. The driver fled the scene but a tourist was hit by the bullet. SPI director Eric Estrada said the case will be investigated both internally, through the Directorate of  Professional Responsibility, and by the Public Ministry.
