Ricardo Arias Calderón dies at 83

Ricardo Arias Calderón, former vice president of Panama, passed away Monday, February 13th at 83 years of age. The information was confirmed by his relatives.

Born on May 4, 1933, Arias Calderón was a member of the Civilian Democratic Alliance of Opposition (ADO), and served as vice president in the government of Guillermo Endara and Guillermo Ford (1989-1994).

Arias Calderón was also president of the Christian Democrat Party and member of the first board of directors of the newspaper La Prensa. He was known for opposing the military dictatorship headed by Omar Torrijos and Manuel Antonio Noriega.
