Sargent Dies Following DGI Office Burglary
Sgt Nelson Guerra of Panama’s National Police force passed away the afternoon of December 23rd after suffering a shot to the head the DGI office robbery that occurred December 20th.
Doctors operated on two occasions but could not save his life. The Sargent leaves a child with special disabilities.
According to the director of the DGI office, Publio Cortés, following the burglary Two men were arrested for stealing $11.6 million dollars. Of the stolen funds, $73,000 was in cash and the remaining amount in certified checks.
The initial charges against the men included: theft, illegal possession of weapons and attempted murder. The taxi used in the robbery was intercepted seven minutes after the robbery. The evidence collected from the taxi included 3 bags of money & checks, along with two firearms, ammunition, latex gloves and strap
