Five dead in MSC Boat Collision
Five people were killed and six are missing after a Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) box ship collided with an Ecuadorian fishing boat.
The collision occured between the border of Ecuador and Peru on December 17, 2016.
The victims were all crew members of the fishing vessel. According to reports the two vessels collided just after 5 a.m.
The boats were sailing in international waters 216 nautical miles southwest off Ecuador's Santa Elena province, according to Ecuadorian maritime authorities, when they collided leaving 5 people dead, 6 people missing and 12 people rescued in stable condition.
Following the accident, Ecuador and Peru issued a bi-national search and rescue as the accident occurred on borders between the two countries, while several civilian vessels helped in the rescue.
