Panama formalizes extradition request for Ricardo Martinelli

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Panama issued a formal notification to the United States state department on Monday, September 27th, for the extradition of former President Ricardo Martinelli.

The extradition request included a request for the provisional arrest of the former president and responses to attempts by defense attorneys to block the extradition of the former president who is believed to be living in Miami.

The extradition request, a result of charges Martinelli is facing in Panama for allegedly ordering illegal surveillance while in office, is currently under review by U.S. officials.
