First solar powered poultry farm begins operation in Arenosa
Recently Panama opened their first poultry farm, that operates on solar energy. The project is the first to be funded under the new green energy program Panama has introduced in an effort to reach environmental and sustainability targets, while generating profit for local businesses in the nation.
The farm, Fina Cauca, has been operating for 26 years. Previously the farmer was spending upwards of $4000 a month to operate the farm which covers a total area of 1,860 square meters. But now Owner Ivanhoe José de Roux from La Arenosa, in La Chorrera, will no longer be paying large sums to the power company only $1400, monthly to the National Bank for funding the installation.
Ignacio Fuster of Realsolar is the company responsible for the installation of the solar panels. The company explained that the 300 solar panels have a 25 year life span and will provide energy to the galleys, which have a capacity for 95,000 thousand chickens.
