Uber announces free service following Taxi protest

On Friday April 8 2016 taxi drivers throughout Panama City, protested in an effort to get the Panamanian Transit Authority to suspend the service Uber in Panama. The same day, the company announced free service for hours throughout the day on Friday.

 

The free service was from 12:00 noon to 9:59 p.m. Those using the service were granted the opportunity to make two trips up B /10.00 each absolutely free using the promo code PANAMANOPARA.

From the early hours, taxi drivers from different parts of the country, began a caravan to the Transit Authority and Land Transportation (ATTT) in Pedregal, where they demanded the suspension of service. Around 300 taxi drivers joined the rally. The rally was also supported by other tourism transit services.
