Rainy Season Expected in June

According to a report from the Climatology department of the Electric Transmission Company (Etesa) Panama will be waiting on rain until as late as June.

While Etesa’s climatology director, Pilar Lopez said that we can expect some initial downpours throughout the month of may, he warned rainy season will likely hold of until June.

The effects of El Niño have left Panama in severe drought. About 300,000 gallons of potable water are distributed daily by tankers in 40 communities, facing a severe crisis in the province of Los Santos. Furthermore, the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) has 51 storage tanks in various sectors also facing drought problems.

With many rivers running dry communities are building wells, and schools have been forced to go without water for weeks on end.
